Policy
All students must turn 16 years old before the last day of class. At 15 1/2 students may legally drive in the State of New Hampshire if accompanied by a licensed driver at least 25 years of age and must have with them a copy of their birth certificate. New Hampshire residents learning to drive may not drive anywhere out of state.
Prior to taking the DMV test, students must have completed a 20 hour driving log to record all driving done outside of driver education. This log may be started when the student becomes 15 1/2. Benson's Driving School, LLC will provide this form on the first day of class. This form may also be obtained prior to the start of class at any New Hampshire Department of Motor Vehicle station.
New Hampshire law requires that a student under 18 years old complete a driver education course consisting of 30 hours of classroom and 10 hours of in-vehicle driving and 6 hours of in-vehicle observation along with the 20 hours outside of the driver education program. We will need a copy of the student's birth certificate prior to any driving.
We have found that students who rely only on the 10 hours provided by driver education course do not receive the proper amount of experience to prepare them for driving. It is imperative that the student complete the 20 hours of required driving prior to taking the state DMV test.
- A deposit of $100.00 will be required to secure the student in the class. The deposit is non-refundable. The balance is payable in 2 more installments, $ 265 due on the first night of class and the remaining balance is due two weeks after the start of the first class.
- Students are not allowed to miss more than 4 hours of class in the course. This is New Hampshire law. On the fifth missed hour the student will be removed from the program.
- Students will be provided with a notebook, DMV manual, all necessary paperwork and a textbook. Textbook must be returned before student will receive driver completion certificate.
- Students must pass a final exam. Those not passing may retake the test after 10 days.
- Class participation is mandatory. All homework assignments and quizzes must be completed as part of class participation.
- Any student absent from class must see instructor for any make up work required.
- All students must complete 10 hours of behind-the-wheel driving and 6 hours of observation to complete this class. Students will be required to commit to 2 hours of driving time per week. Any scheduled driving times missed without a 24 hour notification will result in a $35.00 rescheduling fee.
- There will be no refunds after 6 hours of classroom or 2 hours of driving have been completed. Initial deposit will not be refunded, this is used to secure the student's enrollment and materials.
- No smoking, swearing or disruptive behavior will be allowed in the class, school vehicle or on the school grounds. It is considered a disruption if the instructor must speak to a student for interfering with the education of the other students. First offense is a verbal warning, second offense is a written warning and third offense is removal from program with no refund. In all fairness to the students that pay good money to learn, this policy will be strictly enforced.
- Students must be able to pass an eye chart exam at the DMV with a vision of 20/40 to qualify for a New Hampshire driver's license. Please bring any necessary glasses or contacts to your classes.
- There will be a $25.00 fee charged on all returned checks
-
Students will not receive a certificate of completion if any of the following apply:
- Not paid in full
- No textbook returned
- Incomplete homework or class assignments
- Failing grade on final written exam
- Lack of classroom participation
